Every day is a struggle ...
Sue’s family is one of hundreds in Christchurch that are struggling to pay rent and put food on the table. She wonders which bill to pay next, and which one to put off for another month, as she falls deeper and deeper into debt. Stress is huge, and often leads to severe depression and desperation.
How do we know?
Kingdom Resources, a charitable company, provides budgeting support to people across Christchurch, including Rangiora, Kaiapoi, Leeston, Lincoln and Leeston. This year, our 30th year of operation, we've helped record numbers of people in need. One budget advisor said that she'd never seen such financial hardship before, and she's had over 10 years of experience. Like Joe, who lived in a house bus with no heating or water over winter. Or Eva, whose house was so damp that her child became asthmatic.
Here’s what we’re doing about it
To help make life less stressful, Kingdom Resources gives a helping hand up (not a hand out) by enabling people through:
- one to one free budgeting support, which may include giving out a food parcel at Christmas
- an exciting free life skills and confidence course for women over 20 years old
- Access to interest-free loans.
