A little bit of context

Australia 2016, a vibrant and largely harmonious multicultural society consisting of a diverse mix of people from literally around the world. In our particular neck of the woods the Australian Thai community is 60,000 strong and growing, consisting of young and old, students, husbands and wives with Thai or non-Thai backgrounds.

But there’s a problem

Many people in the community are often socially and physically isolated. They may have met a strange and exciting man from Australia back in Thailand, fallen in love and moved over here. What they find when they arrive is not what they expect. They are controlled by their new partner, their passport and money taken away, their phone and online presence constantly surveiled. They are controlled socially and physically through violence and psychological abuse and with little to no English without organisations like Thai Welfare they are completely on their own.

Here’s what we’re doing about it

Thai Welfare was established in Sydney in 1990 to work with Thai people in Australia to help them grow in their new country. Whether it be through saving them from the horrors of sexual servitude or simply helping them wade through conversational English, their tax return or escaping domestic violence we are here to help them help themselves.

We are raising money to help pay for a domestic violence prevention case officer to work full time for Thai Welfare so this work does not go undone. Without your help, these people continue to suffer.

You can join us

We need $60000 to be able to afford this worker so this work can be done. All proceeds will go towards ensuring the worker is able to do the crucial work that no one else in Australia has the linguistic, cultural or professional abilities to achieve.

And here’s some amazing perks for supporting us that you can’t live without

We're just a little welfare association with no bells and whistles. What amazing is that you're able to help and actually do. We're registered deductible gift recipient with the ATO so donations above $2 are tax deductible!
