Who is Disarm?
Disarm is a collection of individuals and organisations working towards changing Australia's military role; recognising the increased role surveillance and drones have on the lives of people across the world; that the arms trade continues to be the real benefactor of the "war on terror", and that we have a lot of work to do to make a change to an industry that is destroying lives and the environment.
US Has Killed More Than 20 Million People in 37 “Victim Nations” Since World War II
The U.S has military bases in over 150 countries; yet they claim to be under 'threat'. In Sep 2016 Disarm converged on the gates of Pine Gap, a US Spy base situated 16km south of Alice springs, to show them we know what they are doing and we want them to stop.
Avalon Air Show/Arms Trade Fair
The Australian international aerospace and defence exposition and Australian International AIrshow is to take place again in Febuary and March 2017.
Billed as a family friendly event to let your kids climb aboard a tank or watch fighter jets zoom past to give kids a firsthand experience of the joys of war.
Behind the smoke lies the dark underbelly of the International arms industry. "AVALON 2017 is strongly supported by the Royal Australian Air Force, Airservices Australia, the Civil Aviation Safety Authority, Defence’s Capability Acquisition and Sustainment Group, the Defence Science and Technology Group and the Departments of Industry, Innovation & Science and of Infrastructure & Regional Development." From the Avalon website
The previous Avalon trading days saw over 33,000 of the worlds arms dealers making deals in excess of over $1 billion.
“If you round it down, you’re looking at $100 billion worth of business opportunities from the Defence Integrated Investment Program at Avalon,” Ferguson pointed out. https://
Convergence Camp Feb 27-Mar 5 2017
Disarm is joining with other peacemakers to protest and peacefully disrupt the sale of war weapons to arms dealers.
A camp will be held from Monday 27 feb until March 5 near Avalon airport in Melbourne. With actions, workshops and activities planned throughout with the intention to shut the Arms Trade fair down.
We are raising funds to pay for food, fuel and other transport costs associated in getting interstate peacemakers to camp. Funds are also required for protest props (banners/paints etc) and printing of flyers.
Please visit our FB Page 'The Disarm Collective' for coming events or call 0459424247 or 0403076686 for more information. Thank you for your support.
