Un po' di contesto:

Il fiume di montagna Aventino scorre dalla sorgente a Monte Porrara ai margini del Parco Nazionale della Majella,passando per i comuni di Palena, Lama dei Peligni, Gessopalena e Civitella Messer Raimondo si di essa la strada per Lago Sant'Angelo (Lago di Casoli).

Questa zona di straordinaria bellezza naturale della valle dell'Aventino attira piu' di 5.000 turisti all'anno. Non solo i turisti provenienti da altre parti9 d'Italia, ma anche da Francia, Germania, Regno Unito, Irlanda, Olanda, Belgio, Svezia, Finlandia, Danimarca, Spagna, Stati Uniti d'America, Canada, Nuova Zelanda, Australia, Sud Africa, Venezuela, Argentina, Russia, Repubblica Ceca, Israele, Arabia Saudita, Giappone e Malesia.

Questa Valle e' stato descritto su programmi di televisivi di stile di vita e programmi televisivi di viaggio in Italia, Svezia, Australia e Regno Unito.

Ma c'e' un problema:

Purtroppo, il Comune di Gessopalena vuole una societa' idroelettrica di rovinare tutto questo con la costruzione di una diga in calzestrucco di 4 metri di altezza e di 18 metri di larghezza di la' del fiume, mettando ile fiume in un tubo di 1,8 metri di diametro per 2,3 chilometri piu' a valle e poi spinto attraverso le turbine per produrre elettricita'.

L'autorita' regionale di Chieti ha dato l'approvazione per Gessopalena a presentare offerte nel dicembre 2011.I Comunei adiacente di Lama dei Peligni e Civitella Messer Raimondo non era stato informato. Nessun sapeva di questo fino a 25 ingegneri provenienti da societa' offerenti sono arrivati nella nostra terra nel gennaio 2012 per accedere a questa sezione del fiume Aventino - senza chiedere il nostro permesso!

Il fiume Aventino e' patrimonio di tutti. Eppure il Comune di Gessopalena avra' piu' di 30 anni riceveranno un totale di 5 milioni di euro e la societa' appaltatrice, che alla fine ha vinto la gara, riceveranno un totale di circa 35 milioni di euro.

ANCORA UNA VOLTA POCHE PERSONE DIVENTANO SEMPRE PIU' RICCHI MENTRE LA MAGGIOR PARTE SEMPRE PIU' POVERI!

MA E' MOLTO PEGGIO - TUTTA L'ECOSISTEMA FLUVIALE MORIRA':

Questo progetto avra' un impatto economico devastante per le comunita' locali. Il turismo verde sta crescendo in questa zona, come le persone a scoprire i benefici della natura, la fuga e l'avventura in questa bella landa.

L'impatto ambientale e' ancora piu' grave - che uccidera' l'intero ecosistema. Questo atto irriversibile distruggera' l'intera area. Tutti fiori e fauna moriranno. Le lontre protetta perderanno la loro casa. Non piu' saranno gli aironi essere visto bere ogni giorno, ne' cervi e i loro bambi, La trota e i gamberi di fiume non seranno piu' vagare liberi. Falconi non si libarsi sopra e l'aquila reale, non ci srara grazia con la sua presenza. Si effetuera' le 28 specie di farfalle che arrivano qui, tutti le ape, i pipistrelli, irospi e le rani; gli scoiattoli neri, le volpe - in effetti ogni cosa vivente sara' perduta PER SEMPRE!!

Ecco quello che staimo facendo su di esso:

Nel gennaio 2012, ho decido di fare qualcosa per questo per fermare la distruzione di questa valle dove vivo con mia moglie Ruth. Insieme con il Comune di Civitella Messer Raimondo e un italiano che ha anche la proprieta' nella valle, Abruzzo Rafting che utilizzano il fiume, l'Hotel Tiroasegno e Hotel Camerlengo - abbiamo assunto un avvocato per combattere questo nei tribunale di Roma (Tribunale Superiore per Aeque Pubbliche).

Dopo anni di lotta questo abbiamo finalmente nel mese di ottobre 2015, il Tribunale Superiore ci ha dato ragione!

Nonostante la sentenza sfavorevole, pero', chi vuole realizzare la centrale non si e' arreso w sta facendo di tutti per costruirla nella speranza che i cittadini che defendo il Fiume non abbiano i soldi per continuare la battaglia legale.

Non possiamo permettere che questo accada!

Gessopalena potrebbe ottenere piu' soldi ad un costo inferiore, semplicemente itilizzando pannelli solare per produrre elettricita'. Tutti sanno che sfruttare un Fiume non e' la via da seguire.

La prima udienza questa volta in Tribunale e' prevista per il 22 febbraio 2017. Quindi abbiam tutto da capo la stessa situazione! Abbiamo bisogno di riunirsi rapidamente per raccogliere i fondi di cui abbiamo bisogno.

A little bit of context

The mountain river Aventino flows from its source in Monte Porrara on the edge of the Majella National Park, passing through the comunes of Palena, Lama dei Peligni, Gessopalena and Civitella Messer Raimondo on it's way to Lago Sant'Angelo (Lake Casoli).

This area of outstanding natural beauty of the Aventino valley attracts over 5,000 tourists per year. Not only tourists from other parts of Italy but also from France, Germany, UK, Ireland, Holland, Belgium, Sweden, Finland, Denmark, Spain, USA, Canada, New Zealand, Australia, South Africa, Venezuela, Argentina, Russia, Czech Republic, Israel, Saudi Arabia, Japan and Malaysia.

This valley has been featured on lifestyle and travel TV programs in Italy, Sweden, Australia and UK.

But there’s a problem

Unfortunately, the comune of Gessopalena wants a hydro-electric company to ruin all this by building a concrete dam 4 meters high and 18 meters wide across the river, putting the river in a tube of 1.8 meters in diameter for 2.3 kilometers downstream and then pushed through turbines to create electricity.

The regional authority of Chieti gave approval for Gessopalena to tender an escalated procedure bid in December 2011. The adjacent comune of Lama dei Peligni and Civitella Messer Raimondo had not been informed. No one knew about this until 25 engineers from bidding companies arrived on our land in January 2012 to gain access to this section of the river Aventino - without asking our permission!

The river Aventino is everyone's heritage. Yet the comune of Gessopalena will over 30 years receive a total of 5 million euros and the company Val Gleris SrL , who eventually won the bid, will receive a total of some 35 million euros.

ONCE AGAIN A FEW PEOPLE GET RICHER WHILST THE MAJORITY GET POORER!

BUT IT IS MUCH WORSE THAN THAT - THE WHOLE RIVER ECOSYSTEM WILL DIE:

This project will have a devastating economic impact to the local communities. Green tourism is growing in this area as people discover the benefits of nature, escape and adventure in this beautiful wilderness.

The environmental impact is even more severe - it will kill the whole ecosystem. This irreversible act will destroy the whole area. All flora and fauna will die. The protected otters will lose their home. No more will the herons be seen drinking every day, nor the stags and baby doe. The trout and crayfish will no longer swim free. Falcons will not hover above and the golden eagle will not grace us with its presence. It will effect the 28 species of butterflies that arrive here, all the bees, the bats, the toads and the frogs; the black squirrels, the foxes - in fact every living thing will be lost FOR EVER!!

"Only when the last tree has died and the last river has been poisoned and the last fish caught, will we realise that we cannot eat money" (19th Century Cree Indian Proverb).

Here’s what we’re doing about it

Back in January 2012, I decided to do something about this to stop the destruction of this valley where I live with my wife, Ruth. Along with the comune of Civitella Messer Raimondo and an Italian who also has property in the valley, Abruzzo Rafting who use the river, Hotel Tiroasegno and Hotel Camerlengo - we hired a lawyer to fight this in the courts in Rome (Tribunale Superiore per Acque Pubbliche).

After years of fighting this we finally heard in October 2015 that the court had ruled in our favour!

However, despite this unfavourable ruling those who want to implement the hydroelectric plant and dam the river did not give up and are doing everything possible to build it, it the hope that those who oppose them and defend the river Aventino run out of money to continue this legal battle.

We cannot allow this to happen!

Gessopalena could get more money at less cost, simply by using solar panels to produce electricity. Everyone knows that exploiting the river in this way is not the best way forward.

Our next hearing in court is scheduled for 22nd February 2017. So we have the same situation all over again! We need to come together swiftly to raise the funds that we need.
